Let It Go – a Mom’s Parody

Stress brings out the song in me.

It’s true. It’s a little coping mechanism that most of the world never gets to see.

And no one hears my little parodies because I can’t actually sing. That little fact doesn’t stop me around the house, but it does prevent a video of my songs from being released on this blog.

To diffuse my frustration, I often bust out with my  own little lyrical creations that turn my angst into laughter.  The “Yes, Yes, No” song was a well known one in these parts back in the day of toddlers. It was a perfect little diddy to keep me sane when toddlers kept changing their mind about EVERYTHING!

Just pick a color cup, kid!!!

But instead of losing my mind, I would sing.  It never really helped the toddler, but it certainly helped me!

And now we come to today’s parody.  This little tune is inspired by  my 11 year old daughter and the mess in her bedroom.

Let It Go.
(sung to the tune of…Let It Go…which can be found here if for some reason you can’t hear the tune embedded in your head forever.  I have found that it reads better with the music playing in the background.)

IMG_5048The mess piles high in the bedroom tonight
No speck of carpet to be seen
A room of art and drawings
and mom thinks it should be clean.

And daddy is agreeing. Yes, he always takes mom’s side
I couldn’t keep it clean, heaven knows I’ve tried

Don’t let the them in. Don’t let them see
Be the creative girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t clean, don’t let them know
Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
Pipe cleaners and glitter galore
Let it go, let it go
Crayons and artwork on the floor

I don’t care
What they’re going to say
Let the art rage on,
The mess never bothered me anyway

It’s funny how this disaster
Makes my bedroom seem so small
And the closet that once was empty
Is stuffed now with it all

It’s time to see what I can draw
To test the limits and break through
No chores, no vacuum, no rules for me
I’m free

Let it go, let it go
I am one with the this messy scene
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me clean

Here I stand
And here I’ll stay
Let my parents rage on

IMG_5049Cut paper flurries through the air on to the ground
My books are opened up and scattered on the floor and all around
And one thought occurs to me rising from the floor
I’m never clearning it
Shove clothes behind the door

Let it go, let it go
And I’ll sleep on my mess till dawn
Let is go, let it go
That clean up girl is gone

Here I stand
In the light of day
Let my parents rage on
The mess never bothered me anyway.

And what might be the point of this little post?  Other than a permanant record of one of my brilliant songs, you mean?  Well, it is that moms do an awful lot of nutty things in order to hold on to their sanity.

I sing crazy made up songs.

What keeps you sane?

  1. Hilarious!!! Our daughters must have the same room! I’ve stopped going in there. It keeps me sane.
Thanks, Mary, for the parody and thanks for getting that tune stuck in my head the rest of the day!

  2. Oh, thank you….that cracked me up. For my daughter, it’s creative arrangements of stuffed animals and dolls, dressed and re-dressed a thousand times until the doll and girl clothes are two feet deep on the floor, with miscellaneous little junk (hair ties, beads, toy parts, etc.) scattered throughout. Plus approximately 200 books in towering piles everywhere. I can’t look.
